Vintage art prints of famous paintings

Ask about a study of another painting

Classic paintings from 1820 to 1904, as art prints: archival giclées of Riya Kumari’s hand-painted oil studies of works by Claude Monet, Winslow Homer, John Singer Sargent, Arnold Böcklin and Joseph Karl Stieler.

These are new prints, not antique ones, and they are prints of Riya’s studies, not of the museum originals: each study was painted by hand in oil on canvas, then printed on Hahnemühle German Etching paper. They come unframed or in a matted frame, made to order, with a certificate of authenticity.

Self-Portrait with Death Playing the Fiddle, Arnold Böcklin (1872)

It is a memento mori, a reminder that life is short. Böcklin, then 45, paints himself at work with his brush and palette, and pauses to listen: behind his shoulder a skeleton plays a fiddle, almost in his ear. Death is close, and the painter carries on working. The original, oil on canvas, 75 × 61 cm (29.5 × 24 in), is in the Alte Nationalgalerie, Berlin.

Beethoven with the Manuscript of the Missa Solemnis, Joseph Karl Stieler (1820)

Joseph Karl Stieler, in the spring of 1820, when Beethoven was 49. Beethoven sat for him only a few times, so Stieler painted most of it without him. He holds the score of the Missa Solemnis, the mass he was writing then, and looks up as if mid-thought. The original, oil on canvas, about 62 × 50 cm (24.5 × 19.5 in), is in the Beethoven-Haus, Bonn.

Le Bassin des Nymphéas (Water Lilies), Claude Monet (1904)

About 250 paintings of the pond in Monet’s garden at Giverny, which he built himself, painted over the last 31 years of his life. They show the lilies, the water and the sky reflected in it, at different times of day and year. In his last years Monet painted them while suffering from cataracts.

The Herring Net, Winslow Homer (1885)

Two fishermen in a small boat, hauling in a net heavy with herring as the boat rises on the swell, with the fishing fleet faint in the mist behind them. Homer painted ordinary working people as heroes, holding their own against the sea. The original, oil on canvas, 76.5 × 122.9 cm (30 × 48.4 in), is in the Art Institute of Chicago.

Margaret Stuyvesant Rutherfurd White (Mrs. Henry White), John Singer Sargent (1883)

Margaret (Daisy) White, an American society figure married to the diplomat Henry White. The couple commissioned Sargent to paint her in Paris in 1883, the same years he was working on his famous Madame X. The original, oil on canvas, 225.1 × 143.8 cm (88.6 × 56.6 in), is in the National Gallery of Art, Washington.
